Westell Adds High Port Density Switches to the eSmartES™ Line of Managed Ethernet Edge Switches
Modular switch includes expansion slots for port flexibility of up to 28 ports
AURORA, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL), a leading provider of telecommunications equipment for wireline, wireless and home networks, announced today that it has introduced a new series of Ethernet switches to the eSmartES™ product line. The new ES7000 series of managed Ethernet switches are extremely flexible with configurations from 12 to 28 ports and include Westell’s industry-leading SiteVu™ Secure telemetry feature, Power over Ethernet (PoE) and PoE+, as well as four gigabit ports that are UTP/SFP combinations.
The ES7028G model is modular and field upgradable, allowing the user to quickly and easily add expansion slots to the 12-port base unit, resulting in a switch with options for 12, 14, 16, 20, 22 or 28 ports. It is packaged in a rugged galvanized steel enclosure that allows for 1RU rack, wall or panel mounting. For applications that require 12 ports or less, the ES7012 model provides all the same features and functionality as the ES7028G model but in a compact form that is suitable for backboard, DIN-rail or wall mounting.
“We are very excited about the addition of the ES7000 series of managed Ethernet switches to our eSmartES product line,” said Chris Shaver, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Westell Technologies. “The ES7000 series expands the range of applications that can be cost-effectively addressed with Westell’s industrial Ethernet switches. As with our other Ethernet products for the utility and industrial marketplace, these switches incorporate lessons from three decades of developing telco-grade products for harsh outdoor environments.”
The ES7000 series of Ethernet switches have been designed to handle stressful workloads such as those common in industrial and heavy-duty outdoor applications, including power utility substations, video surveillance systems, and traffic control monitoring. These switches are ideal for connecting edge devices such as SCADA telemetry radios, Programmable Logic Controllers, and cameras with upstream switches or routers.
The ES7000 platform’s industrial design features include an extended operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C (+75°C continuous; up to +85°C in extreme conditions) and a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and severe electrical surges. These switches also offer redundant DC power with an input range of 11-57Vdc and internal AC/high-voltage DC power supply.
Westell offers a wide range of enclosure and powering solutions available for indoor and outdoor applications. For more details on the ES7000 series, visit: http://www.westell.com/products/ethernet-solutions. Production units are available today.
